According to a recent report, 1,044 vertiports are planned for development between 2024 and 2028 to support the growing global eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) market. This expansion marks significant growth of the Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) industry, as it will provide the infrastructure necessary for the commercial operation of sustainable air transportation networks. Vertiports are key hubs for eVTOL services, allowing for efficient passenger and cargo transit in urban and regional areas.
The report, authored by Philip Butterworth-Hayes, does note that due to regulatory delays and potential program setbacks, the actual number of operational vertiports by 2028 may be closer to 623. This still represents a significant increase, however, given that only 24 vertiports are expected to be completed in 2024. The development of these aerial hubs will be vital for the AAM industry, as it aims to revolutionize mobility through innovative, sustainable transport solutions.
